Forney's prime location just 21 miles east of Downtown Dallas provides residents with easy access to a strong road and highway infrastructure. Situated along U.S. Highway 80 and just minutes from Interstate 20, Forney allows for quick access to IH-635 (interstate loop around Dallas), Interstates 30, 35 and 45, along with other highways and tollways, including U.S. Highways 75 and 175, President George Bush Turnpike/State Highway 190, the Dallas North Tollway and State Highways 78 and 183. In addition, these roads connect Forney residents and businesses to nearby airports such as Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (42 miles), Dallas Love Field (27 miles), Mesquite Metro Airport (9 miles), Terrell Municipal Airport (14 miles) and Ralph Hall/Rockwall Municipal Airport (16 miles). In addition, Forney's location in the south-central United States allows for air travel to either coast within 4 hours. Forney is also a member of the STAR public transit bus system, which provides scheduled and concierge transportation within Kaufman County and the surrounding areas.  Union Pacific Railroad maintains an east-west route with the potential for rail spurs through Forney, connecting to intermodal hubs in the Dallas area.

Recent transportation improvements include new on/off ramps and frontage road reconfiguration for U.S. Highway 80, the addition of lanes on FM 548 and a $1.3 million downtown drainage and sidewalk enhancement project.  The Gateway Bridge on the east side of Forney provides an east loop connector of Gateway Boulevard between the north and south ends of the development.  As Forney’s population continues to grow, new investment in transportation projects will continue.
