Forney Named to “Safest City” List for Second Consecutive Year

FORNEY, TX – For the second consecutive year, the City of Forney has been named one of the “Safest Places in Texas”, according to a study conducted by ValuePenguin. In 2015, the City of Forney ranked as the 38th safest City in the State of Texas, this year, the City ranks as the 39th safest city in the state, with a “crime score” of 940. The study is based upon the 2014 Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) crime data, that includes violent and property crimes from all law enforcement agencies that participate in the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting program. The study also ranked the City of Forney ahead of several other municipalities in our area including, Rockwall, Terrell, McKinney and Frisco.

To determine the “Safest City” list and “crime score”, ValuePenguin first standardizes crime data to reflect violent and property crimes per 100,000 people, to account for population. Then the “crime score” is determined by weighing the percentage of violent crime to that of property crime. Of the 217 cities that participated in the study, “crime scores” ranged from 321 to just over 7,000.

Residents will be able to find an interactive map that includes all of the 217 cities listed in the study at http://www.valuepenguin.com/2016/safest-places-texas.
