Forney's prime location just 21 miles east of Downtown Dallas provides residents with easy access to a strong road and highway infrastructure. Situated along U.S. Highway 80 and just minutes from Interstate 20, Forney allows for quick access to IH-635 (interstate loop around Dallas), Interstates 30, 35 and 45, along with other highways and tollways, including U.S. Highways 75 and 175, President George Bush Turnpike/State Highway 190, the Dallas North Tollway and State Highways 78 and 183. In addition, these roads connect Forney residents and businesses to nearby airports such as Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (42 miles), Dallas Love Field (28 miles) and Mesquite Metro Airport (9 miles). In addition, Forney's location in the south-central United States allows for air travel to either coast within 4 hours. Forney is also a member of the STAR public transit bus system, which provides transporation within Kaufman County and the surrounding areas.
Other new road infrastructure within the City include an interchange along U.S. Highway 80 and FM 548, one of the major retail centers within Forney. A downtown parking plan, set to begin construction Summer 2016, will provide safer and easier access to business owners and visitors in Historic Downtown Forney. Also, the Gateway Blvd. Bridge, a $23 million development, provides access across U.S. Highway 80 within the 2,000 acre Gateway development. The north end of the road and bridge are complete with the south spine road under construction.
