Five City of Forney Officials attended ICSC RECon in Las Vegas, May 23-25. ICSC is a global retail real estate convention that is put on every year, at the Las Vegas Convention Center, by the International Council of Shopping Centers. Forney has sent officials to ICSC RECon for the past four years. Forney's new theme for this year was "Be a Player - Not a Spectator - Forney, Texas". The idea was to promote our city as an active family-oriented community.

“The Main Street Rabbit Trax 5K was a great event for Forney.  I was standing in the Donut shop at 5:30am watching lightening and pouring down rain and wondered when to make the call for cancellation.  About 6:15am the sky cleared and the only evidence of the storm was wet pavement.  A beautiful, bright sky welcomed the race!”  See the results and pictures below.

The EDC, in cooperation with downtown business owners, put this event together in an effort to bring a fun family event to Forney which would draw people to downtown, while demonstrating the connectivity to our wonderful park trails system via Main Street.  We had visitors all the way from Fort Worth, Cedar Hill, Irving, Marshall, Allen, Sulpher Springs, Frisco and more.  Only by the team effort of the parks and recreation, public works, police, fire, and administrative departments could we pull off such an enjoyable and safe race.  The professionals from Luke’s Locker and Race Chip Timing ensured positive visibility for Forney within the DFW region, as well as delivered a well-run event for those competitive participants.  The race also brought community cooperation out in full force, and a huge thank you goes out to Brookshire’s as our local sponsor and Team Velocity for providing the many volunteers.  Boy Scout Troop 339, the Forney High School Band and our City Council also participated.

“It was community at its best.  Many entities joined together to make it happen, then people from in and out of town, of all ages, had a great time…mixed with a bit of competition of course!”
